- Bangladesh recovered from 184 for 7 to post 386 and take a 30-run first-innings lead over West Indies in Sylhet.
- Hridoy is only the fourth Bangladesh batter to score a Test double century, and the first to turn a maiden Test hundred into a double.

Towhid Hridoy produced one of the great rearguard innings in Bangladesh's Test history on Saturday, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 242 as the hosts turned a looming first-innings deficit into a 30-run lead on day three of the second Test against West Indies in Sylhet.
Bangladesh had been reduced to 184 for 7 shortly before lunch, effectively eight down with opener Shadman Islam unable to bat because of injury, and looked set to concede a substantial lead after West Indies had posted 356. Instead, Hridoy orchestrated a stunning recovery, adding 202 runs with the last three wickets to lift Bangladesh to 386.
A record-breaking day in Sylhet
Hridoy resumed the day on 29 and added 213 runs before stumps, the most runs scored by a Bangladesh batter in a single day of Test cricket. The previous mark was Shakib Al Hasan's 212 against New Zealand in Wellington in 2017.
The 26-year-old reached his maiden Test century off 171 balls, brought up 150 off 235 deliveries and completed his double century off 304 balls. His innings contained 22 fours and 11 sixes, with 154 runs coming in boundaries — another Bangladesh record.
In doing so, Hridoy passed Mushfiqur Rahim's unbeaten 219 against Zimbabwe in 2018 to register the highest individual score by a Bangladesh batter in Tests. He also went past Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 171 against Ireland to set the highest individual Test score at the Sylhet venue.
Joining an elite list
Hridoy became only the fourth batter from Bangladesh to register a Test double century, joining Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. He is the first Bangladesh batter to convert a maiden Test century into a double hundred, and the 45th batter in Test history to do so.
His 11 sixes are the most by a Bangladesh batter in a Test innings, beating Tamim Iqbal's previous mark of seven against Pakistan in 2015. Only Wasim Akram and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with 12 each, have hit more sixes in a single Test innings.
Remarkably, it was only Hridoy's third Test. He made his debut against Zimbabwe in June and had scored just 54 runs in his first two matches before this innings.
Where the match stands
Mushfiqur Rahim's 34 was the next-highest score in Bangladesh's innings, underlining how much of the recovery rested on Hridoy. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the West Indies bowlers with 4 for 104, while Jayden Seales took 2 for 58.
West Indies reached 7 without loss before bad light brought an early end to the third day, with Brandon King on 5 and Joshua Da Silva on 2. The visitors still trail by 23 runs with all ten second-innings wickets in hand, and the match remains finely balanced heading into day four.
For Bangladesh, the question now is whether their bowlers can make the slender advantage count. For Hridoy, the innings already stands alone in his country's record books — a debut double century built from a position of 184 for 7, and a statement that Bangladesh have found a new middle-order cornerstone.
